The final National Register of Citizens (NRC) for Assam will be published on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 10 AM. In 2018, the final draft was to be published on July 31, 2018, at all NRC Seva Kendra (NSK) across the state.

40.37 lakh Applicants were not included in the NRC’s final draft, out of 3.29 crore hopefuls, of which 36.2 lakh requested inclusion. On June 26, an extra draft exclusion list with the names of 1,02 lakh individuals was released by the NRC agency.

You may CHECK your NRC application status if you:

  1. Submitted a claim upon not being included in the final draft list (published on July 30, 2018),
  2. were excluded in the Additional Draft Exclusions List published on June 26, 2019,
  3. had any objection filed against your inclusion.
  4. were called for hearings held from July 5, 2019, onwards.
  5. You are included in final NRC and may NOT CHECK your application status if you are:

What is NCR Assam?

NRC stands for National Register of Citizens. This is a document or an official list which names of the real Indian citizens. It includes all the Indian nationals as well as the names of people living in Assam.

Is the Last NCR Assam document is published on July 30?

No, this is the final draft NRC. This means that the NRC Authority will publish another list, which will be final. This claim and objections will be released only after making necessary corrections for names and misspelt names in the final draft NRC.

The top court will announce the date of bringing out the final draft of NRC Assam. The first draft of NCR Assam was published on December 31, 2017. Out of 3.29 crore applicants, there were 1.9 Crore names.

What are the claims and objections?

  • Claim: If you applied, but your name is not on the final draft NRC, then you can make a claim to be included in the form of evidence with the necessary documents.
  • Objection: If you think that the final draft of the names of ineligible people has been included in the NRC, then you can object, and their names can be removed.

Claims and Objection forms will be available at NRC service centres and can be downloaded from www.nrcassam.nic.in. NRC officials will get forms between August 30 and September 28. Claims and objections can only be physically presented at NRC service centres and not online. Names can be improved through service centres or online.

Updating the NRC Assam (wiki) has been a decades-old demand, in which various suggestions and cut-off dates were given ideas, and many rounds of talks were held.

After 5th May 2005, after the trilateral meeting between Center, Assam Government and All Assam Students Union, things started to increase.

The meeting decided under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to update the NRC.

The Supreme Court filed a writ petition in 2009 for the removal of the names of illegal migrants from an NGO, Assam Public Works, from the voters’ lists in Assam.

To update the NRC, the pilot project started in June 2010 in two blocks (in Kamrup and Barpeta districts), but due to law and order problems, the next month was stopped.

In July 2011, the state government established a cabinet subcommittee to simplify the process.
